      Interpreted Performance of The Little Mermaid

      Join Landmark Musicals under the sea on March 24 for a Relaxed Performance of The Little Mermaid with ASL interpreters.
      Relaxed Performances are intended to be sensitive to, and accepting of, audience members who may benefit from a gentler theatre environment. These performances are open to all; however, they are intentionally modified to accommodate patrons with sensory and vestibular sensitivities, anxiety, dementia, autism spectrum disorders, learning differences, or challenges attending the theater.
      This performance will be interpreted, including the Curtain Speech before the performance.

      NMCDHH Interpreter Apprentice Program wants you for FY 25!

      The New Mexico Commission for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Apprenticeship Program is a part time, paid 12-month program designed to help interpreters develop their tools and knowledge to effectively interpret in a variety of scenarios and to prepare for a national level interpreter assessment. This program is not limited to recent graduates of an interpreter training program but is open to all interpreters who are eligible for a New Mexico Provisional Interpreter License.  The FY 25 program will run July 2024 to June 2025.

      What are some of the benefits?

      • Paid opportunities for observation, professional development, and interpreting
      • A personalized professional development plan that meets your skills where they are and grows as you hone those skills
      • One-on-one mentoring with a certified mentor
      • Work with a peer group of apprentices in structured opportunities to develop your skills in theoretical and practical interpreting
      • Work with a diverse Deaf and Hard of Hearing staff who are generous with feedback
      • Interpret in a variety of high register and interactive assignments
      • Learn how to use and apply Demand Control Schema to your work for effective, ethical decision-making
      • Prepare for a national level interpreter assessment
      • Receive the opportunity to contract with the Commission after successfully completing the apprenticeship

      Applications will be due no later than 2:00 pm MST on Monday April 1, 2024, with interviews to follow.

      Please Note, this apprenticeship is not designed to be full time interpreting work. Selected apprentices will be expected to establish other interpreting contracts in addition to this program.

      Signed Language Interpreting Practices Board Meeting

      The Signed Language Interpreting Practices Board will convene a regular board meeting on Thursday, April 4th, 2024. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will held at the Regulation and Licensing Department, 5500 San Antonio Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. The meeting agenda will be posted and available at least 72 hours before the board meeting on the Board’s Website.
      If you are an individual with a disability who needs a reader, amplifier, qualified signed language interpreter, or any other form of auxiliary aid or service to attend or participate in the board meeting, please contact the Board Administrator, Pauline M. Varela at 505-476-4622.

      Individuals who would like to participate and offer public comment must appear in person. The members of the Signed Language Interpreting Practices Board may ask questions for clarification but will not engage in substantive discussion of public comments or take formal action on an item of business unless noticed in the meeting agenda. Issues raised in public comment may be placed on the agenda for a future public meeting for discussion or action.
      For inclement weather: If New Mexico state offices are placed on a two-hour delay due to inclement weather, the board meeting will be pushed back two hours from the noticed meeting time. If New Mexico state offices are closed due to inclement weather, the board meeting will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

      EIPA Written Test in Albuquerque

      NMCDHH is proctoring the EIPA Written Exam this spring! Please note that this is the only planned testing date for New Mexico in 2024. Spots are limited.
      Registration will be first come first served and opens March 15th.
      The test will be Saturday, April 27, 2024 – 9:00am to 1:00pm at the University of New Mexico, Ortega Hall, Albuquerque, NM.
